How To Get Core Wood in Valheim

How To Get Core Wood in Valheim

Core Wood is one of the most important resources you’ll need as you progress through Valheim’s mid-game content. Whether you’re crafting advanced tools or building structures, knowing where to find Core Wood and how to harvest it efficiently is essential. This guide will walk you through everything you need to know to start gathering Core Wood.

Understanding Core Wood in Valheim

In Valheim, you’ll need different types of wood as you progress through the game. Core Wood is the second most important wood type when you reach the mid-game stage. It’s a harder wood than standard wood, which means you’ll need better tools to harvest it.

Where to Find Pine Trees

Core Wood comes from pine trees. These distinctive trees are exclusively found in the Black Forest biome. When you venture into the Black Forest, keep an eye out for tall pine trees—these are the ones you’ll want to focus on chopping down to gather Core Wood.

Requirements for Harvesting Core Wood

Tool Requirements

You cannot harvest Core Wood with a standard stone or wood axe. Because pine trees are a harder wood type, you’ll need to upgrade to either a Bronze Axe or an Iron Axe to successfully chop them down.

Getting Bronze Tools

To unlock a Bronze Axe, you’ll need to gather tin and copper first. Once you have both of these ores, you can smelt them to create bronze. There are dedicated guides available for obtaining tin and copper if you need help with those steps. Once you have bronze unlocked, you can craft a Bronze Axe at a forge.

Getting Iron Tools

Alternatively, you can progress further and unlock iron tools. Iron Axes are even more effective for harvesting Core Wood and will make the process faster. Both Bronze and Iron axes will successfully harvest Core Wood from pine trees.

Summary

Getting Core Wood in Valheim is straightforward once you’re prepared. Travel to the Black Forest biome with either a Bronze Axe or Iron Axe, locate the pine trees, and chop them down to gather your Core Wood. Make sure you’ve already progressed far enough to have unlocked the necessary tool before heading out, as standard axes won’t work on these harder wood trees. With Core Wood in hand, you’ll be well on your way to crafting mid-game equipment and structures.
