Understanding Fire Requirements

Before you can start a fire, you need to understand what materials are required. Open your notepad and navigate to the section with the icon featuring a banana, leaves, and a bottle — this is the small fire blueprint. A small fire requires:

• 6 small sticks
• 8 sticks

When hovering over the fire blueprint picture, a hammer icon will appear. Click this icon and then left-click again to create the fire structure. You can press Q to cancel at any time during this process.

Gathering Sticks and Building the Fire

Once you’ve started constructing the fire, you’ll see a prompt that says “insert small sticks.” Make sure you have collected enough small sticks before beginning. Walk up to the fire structure and insert all your gathered sticks and small sticks into the blueprint.

Next, you’ll need to create a hand drill to generate the ember. Open your inventory, go to your backpack, and access the crafting section. A hand drill is simple to make — it requires:

• 1 small stick

Place both items onto the crafting rock and press craft.

Igniting the Fire

Once you have your hand drill crafted, click on it in your inventory and right-click to select “use.” You’ll crouch down on the floor. Now open your inventory again and navigate to the leaves and stones section. Take the dry leaf you collected from the palm tree and click and drag it onto the white circle visible on the hand drill.

The hand drill will automatically start twisting to create friction and generate an ember. Once the ember is ready, walk over to your fire structure. You’ll see the “ignite” prompt appear — press E to throw the ember onto your fire. Congratulations, you’ve successfully created fire!

Cooking Food On Your Fire

Now that your fire is burning, you can cook food on it. Open your inventory and select any cookable item — for example, a spider. Drag this item onto one of the white circles around the fire. You’ll see a small circle with a timer begin to rotate, indicating that your food is cooking. Wait for the timer to complete, and your food will be ready to eat.
