The Dark Castle & Odds and Ends Quest Guide in Disney Dreamlight Valley
Dark Castle & Odds and Ends Quest Guide – Disney Dreamlight Valley
This comprehensive quest guide walks you through the Dark Castle quest and the Odds and Ends questline in Disney Dreamlight Valley. After completing the Forgotten Relics, you’ll automatically begin the Dark Castle quest with Merlin. Follow along as we tackle challenging puzzles, explore the castle’s depths, and ultimately confront the Forgotten to heal the valley.
Starting the Dark Castle Quest
Once you’ve collected all the forgotten relics, bring them to Merlin to complete the Forgotten Relics quest. This immediately triggers the Dark Castle quest. Speak to Merlin and deliver all the forgotten relics to him.

After delivering the relics, follow Merlin to the plaza. He will lead you to the Nazly portal. Pass through the Dark Portal to enter the Dark Castle area.

Entering the Dark Castle
Once you arrive at the Dark Castle, you’ll need to enter through the main entrance. Head inside and prepare to solve the castle’s puzzles.

The First Door – Wings and Crown
The first door requires you to trick it into thinking you are the Forgotten. To do this, you need to equip two items:
Cardboard Wings
A Crown
You should already have a crown from an earlier quest. If you need wings, look for a wardrobe in the area. Open the wardrobe’s storage and find the clothing bag containing the cardboard wings. Equip both items, then speak to the door again to pass through.

The Second Door – Night Fawn Sprout Salad
After passing the first door, continue up the stairs. You’ll encounter a second door that requires a specific item to open. You need to prepare a Night Fawn Sprout Salad.
The recipe requires:
One Dream Light Salt
One Fawn Sprout
One Dark Castle Lettuce
Locate the cooking pot and add all three ingredients. Once cooked, take the Night Fawn Sprout Salad and place it in the door’s receptacle to unlock it.

The Third Door – The Mechanical Eye Puzzle
Continue up the stairs into the hallway. You’ll encounter signs with a riddle: “Try changing your perspective. Only with the blink of a mechanical eye can you unlock the way forward.”
This is a clever puzzle—you need to use your camera. Equip your camera tool and take a photograph of the doorway. The camera’s lens acts as the mechanical eye, and the door will open.

The Fourth Door – Torch and Ice Block Puzzle
The next puzzle involves torches and ice blocks with moon phases. You’ll find multiple ice blocks scattered around the room. Each ice block contains a torch that corresponds to different times of day (sunrise, sunset, full moon, half moon, etc.).
Dig out each torch from the ice blocks and place them on the pedestals in matching order. Each pedestal shows a different moon phase or celestial symbol:
Match each torch to its corresponding pedestal based on the time of day or moon phase depicted
Continue placing torches until all pedestals are filled
This will melt the large ice block and raise the water level

Fishing for the Key
Once the water level rises after correctly placing all torches, use your fishing rod to fish out the key from the water. Take this key and use it to unlock the final door.

Confronting the Forgotten
After unlocking the final door, you’ll face the Forgotten. This encounter involves multiple interactions throughout the room. You’ll need to approach the Forgotten and use magic at specific locations:
Using Magic on Multiple Objects
Walk towards the light and talk to the Forgotten at the sandbox. Focus your magic on the sandbox, then talk to the Forgotten again.

The Forgotten will then move to the bed. Talk to them and focus magic on the bed.

Next, they’ll move to the desk. Talk to them and focus magic on the desk.

Continue this process for any remaining objects in the room. After completing all interactions, the valley will begin to heal.
Healing the Valley
Once you’ve used magic on all designated objects, the rifts in the sky will heal automatically. This completes the main Dark Castle quest.

Odds and Ends – The Pillar Quest
After healing the valley, the Forgotten gives you an item called the Orb of Rememberance. You must return this to a pillar in the Forgotten Lands.
Travel to the Forgotten Lands and locate the pillar (likely on Skull Rock). Insert the Orb of Rememberance into the pillar. This will remove the Night Thorns permanently from the area.

Completing the Quest
Return to Merlin and speak with him to complete the Odds and Ends quest. This finalizes both the Dark Castle and Odds and Ends questlines.
