This comprehensive quest guide walks you through the complete Heart of Dreamlight Valley quest with Maui in Disney Dreamlight Valley. Learn how to collect the necessary items, craft the protective heart, and restore peace to the valley.

Starting the Quest: Speaking with Maui

Begin by talking to Maui about the limestone you discovered in the previous quest, “Demi Good of the Wind and Sun.” Maui will explain that he has spare scraping stones that can be used on your pickaxe to clear the rust off the limestone. He’ll provide you with both the limestone and the scraping stones to begin the restoration process.

Cleaning the Limestone

Head to your crafting station—in this example, we’ll use the one at Goofy’s House. Navigate to the functional items section where you’ll find the cleaned-up limestone recipe. Craft this item to remove the rust from the limestone.

Returning to Maui with the Cleaned Limestone

Once you’ve cleaned the limestone, return to Maui and show him the shard. He’ll recognize it as a piece covered in lime and explain its significance. According to Maui, this lost island was where the ruler created the Heart of Dreamlight Valley as a protective charm for the castle and valley, designed to help reduce the influence of curses.

Maui will theorize that the other half of the heart might be located at the fountain at the top of the castle.

Finding the Second Piece of the Heart

Travel to the top of the castle where you’ll find an interior fountain (not the well outside, but the fountain inside the castle structure). Search near the fountain and locate the missing second piece of the Heart of Dreamlight Valley.

Pick up the second piece and return to Maui with both heart pieces. He’ll observe that the heart is broken and suggest consulting with Merlin, who may have knowledge on how to repair it.

Consulting with Merlin

Exit the castle and visit Merlin to discuss the Heart of Dreamlight Valley. He’ll recognize it as a protection gem and provide you with a list of materials needed for the restoration:

Purified Night Shards

Water from the Forgotten Lands

Water from the Frosted Heights

Dream Shards

Gathering Night Shards

You’ll need 15 Night Shards total to create three Purified Night Shards (requiring five Night Shards each). Collect Night Shards by digging from glowing dig holes throughout the valley, or convert Onyx gems (which sometimes drop when mining rocks) into Night Shards.

Crafting Purified Night Shards

Use your crafting station to create the three Purified Night Shards from the Potions and Enchantments section. Each recipe requires five Night Shards.

Collecting Water Resources

Water from the Forgotten Lands

Travel to the Forgotten Lands and locate a water source. Interact with the water to collect a sample that you can use for the restoration.

Water from the Frosted Heights

Next, journey to the Frosted Heights and find the water source on the right-hand side of the area. Interact with the water here as well to collect a second water sample.

Crafting the Heart of Dreamlight Valley

With all materials gathered, return to your crafting station and navigate to the Potions and Enchantments section. You’ll find the Heart of Dreamlight Valley recipe—a purple heart that requires the following components:

Water (from both Forgotten Lands and Frosted Heights)

Heart pieces (the two pieces you collected)

Purified Night Shards (all three)

Dream Shards

Complete the craft to create the restored Heart of Dreamlight Valley.

Placing the Heart in the Statue

Maui will instruct you to place the heart back where it belongs—in the hand of the statue at the fountain inside the castle. Travel back to the fountain at the top of the castle and interact with it.

Select the Heart of Dreamlight Valley from your inventory and place it in the statue’s hand. You’ll see Mickey holding the restored heart, signifying the successful completion of this step.

Completing the Quest

Return to Maui to complete the quest. He’ll express his gratitude and explain that with the Heart of Dreamlight Valley restored to the castle, its protective effects will begin helping the village again, making it harder for darkness to spread. As a reward for your efforts, Maui will gift you a cool statue of himself.
