Unlocking the Pal Gear Workbench

To get started with the Pal Gear Workbench, you’ll need to reach level 6. Once you unlock it at this level, you can place it down in your base or settlement.

Understanding Recipe Availability

When you first open the Pal Gear Workbench and select recipes, you may notice the list appears empty. This is completely normal and expected—there’s a specific reason for this.

The Capture Requirement

Recipes only become available once you’ve captured the corresponding Pal. The workbench ties your gear crafting directly to your Pal collection. For example:

Capture a Rushes → Unlock the Rushes Saddle

Capture a Salary → Unlock the Salary Gloves

Capture a Dear → Unlock the saddle for that Pal

Technology Unlocks

In some cases, you may need to unlock an item in the Technology tree as well as capturing the corresponding Pal. For instance, the Melpaca Saddle won’t appear in your workbench recipes until you’ve both captured a Melpaca and unlocked the saddle in your technology tree.

Once both conditions are met, the recipe will instantly become available in your Pal Gear Workbench.

How Crafted Items Work

Key Items and Inventory

When you craft saddles and other gear at the Pal Gear Workbench, these items are classified as “Key Items.” This means they don’t take up any weight in your inventory and remain there permanently once created.

Automatic Riding Ability

You don’t need to manually equip saddles to your Pals. Instead, having a saddle in your inventory as a Key Item automatically unlocks the ability to ride that Pal. Think of crafting these items less as “making gear” and more as “permanently unlocking the right to ride” your Pals.
