How To Build Guard Tower In Prison Architect

Guard towers are an essential security feature in Prison Architect that help you monitor and control your prison more effectively. This guide will walk you through the process of unlocking, building, and staffing a guard tower to enhance your facility’s defenses.

Step 1: Unlock Guard Tower via Bureaucracy

To build a guard tower, you first need to unlock it through the bureaucracy system. Open the bureaucracy menu located on the top left of your screen. Here you’ll find a progression path that requires you to learn three technologies in order:

Security — Learn this first

Armory — Learn this second

Guard Tower — Learn this third

Complete all three technology unlocks before proceeding to the next steps.

Step 2: Build an Armory

Once you’ve unlocked the guard tower technology, you need to build an armory in your prison. The armory is a critical building that stocks weapons and equipment for your armed guards and snipers.

Step 3: Hire a Sniper

After constructing your armory, hire a sniper to man the guard tower. The armory automatically provides the sniper with the weapons and equipment needed to perform their duties effectively.

Step 4: Place the Guard Tower

Now you’re ready to construct the guard tower itself. Navigate to the objects menu on the bottom left of your screen and search for “guard tower.” You’ll see two options available:

Normal Guard Tower — The standard option

Wooden Guard Tower — An alternative design

Select the normal guard tower and place it anywhere in your prison where you want coverage. Simply click and drag to position it in your desired location.
