How To Build & Use Extraction Districts – Frostpunk 2

Extraction districts are a crucial component of resource management in Frostpunk 2. They allow you to harvest valuable materials like prefabs, materials, and oil from deposits scattered across your map. This guide will walk you through the entire process of building and utilizing extraction districts effectively.

Frost Breaking the Ice

Before you can construct any extraction districts, you must first frost break the ice covering resource deposits. Look for the frost breaking tool on the right-hand side of your screen and click it to activate tile selection mode.

Once activated, you can select individual tiles to frost break. For example, if you want to extract oil from an oil wagon, simply click on the tiles surrounding it to unlock them. You’ll notice that some areas, such as construction wagons with prefabs or oil deposits, may already be frost broken.

Selecting and Placing Your Extraction District

After you’ve frost broken the necessary tiles and unlocked the resource wagon, navigate to the districts menu and select “extraction district.”

The extraction district will display its construction requirements and ongoing operational costs. You’ll need to allocate:

Scraps (construction resource)

Prefabs (construction resource)

Workforce (150 people required to manage the district)

Heat (ongoing requirement)

Materials (ongoing requirement)

Determining What Resources You’ll Extract

The type of resource your extraction district produces depends on which tiles and wagons you include in its footprint. The district will automatically extract from the resource wagon contained within its selected area.

For a prefab extraction district, select three tiles that include the construction wagon with prefabs. This configuration will produce 20+ prefabs per week.

For an oil extraction district, select tiles that include the oil wagon. With 60,000 oil available, you can create a district that produces 60 oil per week by selecting the appropriate number of tiles (typically 3 tiles) covering the oil wagon.

Summary

Building extraction districts in Frostpunk 2 is straightforward once you understand the process. First, frost break the ice to unlock resource deposits. Then, navigate to the districts menu and place your extraction district on the frost-broken tiles. The specific resource you extract is determined by which wagon is included within the district’s footprint. Whether you’re harvesting prefabs, materials, or oil, extraction districts are essential for maintaining a steady supply of these critical resources.
