How To Fill A Canister With Soil In Astroneer

Creating a Soil Canister

The first step is to craft a soil canister in your inventory. You’ll need a small amount of resin to create one. Open your inventory and locate the crafting menu to begin building your canister.

Once you’ve found the canister recipe, click the green button to craft a small canister. This will add the empty canister to your inventory, ready for use.

Equipping the Canister on Your Gun

Next, you’ll need to attach the canister to your terrain gun. First, click on your gun in your inventory to equip it. Then select the small canister you just created.

Click the canister onto the red dot located on top of your gun. This attachment point is specifically designed to hold canisters while you’re mining soil.

Mining Soil Into the Canister

With your canister attached and your gun equipped, press E to draw your gun and prepare to mine. Now you’re ready to collect soil directly into your canister.

Simply left-click on soil deposits in your environment. As you extract soil, you’ll notice an orange dot will appear on top of your canister, indicating that it’s filling up. The canister will gradually fill as you continue to harvest soil from the ground.

Knowing When Your Canister Is Full

To monitor the fill level of your canister, watch the colored indicator dot on top of it. When the canister is partially full, this dot will appear orange. This visual feedback helps you track your progress as you mine.

When your canister reaches maximum capacity, the orange dot will change to green. This color change signals that your canister is completely full and ready to be stored or transported.

Storing Your Full Canister

Once your canister is full, press E again to put your gun away. Open your backpack and locate your gun in the inventory. Click on the gun and then select the soil canister attached to it.

Transfer the full canister into your backpack inventory by clicking and dragging it. Your soil canister is now safely stored and ready to be used for farming, terraforming, or other projects.
