How To Build Roads And Rail Roads in Civ 6

How to Build Roads and Railroads in Civilization 6

In Civilization 6, expanding your infrastructure is essential for connecting your cities and improving trade efficiency. This guide will walk you through the two main methods of building roads and railroads, from the simplest approach using traders to the more advanced military engineer system for constructing railroads.

Building Roads with Traders

The easiest way to establish roads in Civilization 6 is by using traders. To build roads, you need to create a trader unit and establish a trade route between your cities.

Simply construct a trader and then build a trade route to other cities, such as Cuscus City. Once you establish the trade route, the game will automatically generate a road connecting the two cities along the trade path.

Building Railroads with Military Engineers

Building railroads requires a more complex process. You’ll need to construct a military engineer unit, which requires several prerequisite steps.

Step 1: Research Military Engineering

First, you must research the Military Engineering technology. Open your tech tree and locate Military Engineering, then begin research on this technology.

Step 2: Build an Encampment

Once you have researched Military Engineering, you need to build an Encampment district. To do this:

Click on your city

Click the gear icon on the right side

Select “Districts and Buildings”

Find and select the Encampment

Step 3: Build Supporting Structures

The Encampment requires two buildings to be fully functional before you can produce a military engineer:

Armory

Stables

Construct both of these buildings within your Encampment district.

Step 4: Build the Military Engineer

After your Encampment is complete with both the Armory and Stables, you can now produce a military engineer unit. Go to the units tab and select to build a military engineer.

Step 5: Construct the Railroad

With your military engineer created, you can now build railroads. Click on the military engineer unit, and you’ll see the railroad option appear in the bottom right of your screen.

Building a railroad requires resources: one iron and one coal. Once you have these resources available, click on the “Build Railroad” option, and the railroad will be constructed.

Summary

Building infrastructure in Civilization 6 is straightforward once you understand the requirements. Roads are the simplest to create—just use traders and establish trade routes. Railroads require more planning and resources, but following these steps will ensure you can efficiently expand your railroad network across your civilization.
