How To Clean Your Prison In Prison Architect
Maintaining a clean prison is essential for the health and happiness of your inmates in Prison Architect. This guide will walk you through the process of setting up a cleaning system, from hiring janitors to establishing a dedicated cleaning cupboard with assigned prisoner labor.
Step 1: Hire Janitors
The first step is to hire janitors to keep your prison clean. Start by accessing the bureaucracy menu and learning the cleaning technology. This unlocks the ability to hire janitorial staff.
Once you’ve learned cleaning, close the bureaucracy menu and navigate to the staff section. From there, click on janitors to access the hiring interface.
You can now click anywhere within your prison to hire a janitor.

Step 2: Set Area Priorities for Janitors
To ensure janitors focus on the most important areas of your prison, you can set prioritization zones. Go to the bottom left of the screen and click on deployment, then select “prioritize area janitor.”
Next, click on the specific area you want the janitors to prioritize cleaning. For example, you might want to prioritize the kitchen for hygiene reasons. Once selected, you’ll see the janitor icon appear on that area, indicating it’s now a priority cleaning zone.

Step 3: Build a Cleaning Cupboard
To establish a proper cleaning infrastructure, you’ll need to build a cleaning cupboard. Start by placing a foundation and creating an indoor room where the cupboard will be located.
Once you’ve created the room space, click on the rooms option in the bottom left menu and search for “cleaning.” Select the cleaning cupboard option and apply it to your newly created room.
Design your cleaning cupboard by dragging the necessary equipment and supplies into the room to complete the setup.

Step 4: Assign Prisoners to Cleaning Labor
The final step is to assign prisoners to work in the cleaning cupboard. Access the logistics menu from the bottom left of the screen, then click on “prison labor” on the left side panel.
In the prison labor menu, locate your cleaning cupboard and assign the maximum number of prisoners available to it. For example, you can assign up to five prisoners to the cleaning cupboard. Once assigned, these prisoners will begin cleaning the prison automatically.

Summary
Setting up an effective cleaning system in Prison Architect is straightforward. By hiring janitors, creating prioritized cleaning zones, building a dedicated cleaning cupboard, and assigning prisoner labor, your prison will remain clean and hygienic. A clean prison leads to happier, healthier inmates and a more efficiently run facility.
