How to Spread a Religion in Civilization 6

Getting Started: Create a Holy Site

To spread a religion in Civ 6, your first requirement is a missionary. However, before you can purchase a missionary, you need to establish the proper infrastructure in your city.

Begin by constructing a holy site in one of your cities. The holy site serves as the foundation for all religious activities and must include a temple within it. Once both the holy site and temple are complete, your city will generate a religion that you can then spread to other civilizations.

Purchasing Your First Missionary

Once your holy site and temple are built and you have established a religion, you can acquire a missionary to begin spreading your faith. Navigate to your city and access the production menu by clicking on the gear icon.

On the right side of the production panel, you’ll see the option to purchase with faith. Select this option and buy your missionary using accumulated faith points.

Deploying Your Missionary

After successfully purchasing your missionary, you can now control it and direct it toward an enemy city that you wish to convert to your religion. Simply select the missionary unit and move it to your target city location.

Spreading Religion to Enemy Cities

Once your missionary enters an enemy city, a new button will appear in the bottom right corner of your screen labeled “Spread Religion”. Click this button to initiate the religious conversion process in that city.

Your missionary will then work to spread your religion to the inhabitants of that city, gradually increasing your religious influence over their civilization.
