Starting the Quest: Catch vs. Deal

When you begin the quest, you have two initial options: catch Vasil or deal with Vasil. The key difference is that catching him does not forward time, while dealing with him does. For this guide, we’ll explore the faster option first.

Vasil will be running around in a specific area. Don’t worry about losing him—he moves slower than you are, so you’ll be able to catch up without difficulty.

Catching Vasil

Once you catch up to him, approach and talk to Vasil. You’ll receive a greeting and can choose from dialogue options. The two main choices you’ll see are “What’s your problem” or “I’m going to show you.”

Meeting Vasil’s Father Cohen

After your initial interaction with Vasil, his father Cohen will arrive on the scene. Cohen explains that Vasil has been causing trouble—loafing about, running away, and getting into scraps. Cohen mentions he tried his best to raise Vasil right after his mother passed away, but the boy has proven to be a slow learner.

Cohen then asks you to help teach Vasil a lesson by beating him, suggesting you both head to a nearby tree for this purpose.

The Main Choice: Beat Him or Refuse

This is the central decision point of the quest. Cohen hands you a switch and instructs you to beat Vasil as hard as you can so he’ll remember to stay away from good folks. You now have two options:

Option 1: Give Him a Beating

If you choose to beat Vasil, you’ll proceed with Cohen’s plan. After the beating, Vasil will respond with defiance, saying “Not done beating me yet?” Once the beating is complete, Vasil will state: “I hope you learned something today,” to which he responds sarcastically, “Well, I learned all I needed to long ago. Don’t go low too. Leave me be then.”

You’ll receive XP for completing the beating option, and the quest will advance down this path.

Option 2: Refuse to Beat Him

If you choose to refuse, you’ll tell Cohen you won’t beat Vasil. When Cohen asks why you’re refusing, you can select dialogue options like “I’m not beating him” or “No way.” Cohen will respond that if you won’t do it, he’ll take care of it himself.

Escalation: Cohen Gets Aggressive

If you refuse to beat Vasil, the situation will escalate. You have the option to tell Cohen “I won’t let you do it,” which leads to further confrontation. When you intervene, Cohen will challenge you, saying “You’re telling me how to raise my own son. Is that right? You respect your elder son. Speak when spoken to. And mind your own bloody business.”

The Alternative Ending Path

In the refusal path, you can respond to Cohen’s aggression by saying “You know your drunk because obviously we’re refusing to beat Vasil.” This leads to a confrontation where Cohen threatens you, saying “I see you need a lesson too.”

At this point, a fight can break out. During the conflict, you may end up striking Cohen. Vasil, witnessing this, asks “Do you hurt my old man, Colin?” and tells you to “Mind your own business.”

Quest Completion

Regardless of which path you take, the quest will eventually reach its completion. Your choices throughout determine which ending you receive, but both paths result in the quest being marked as complete.
