This comprehensive guide will walk you through the Decay to Grow quest in Disney Dreamlight Valley, featuring Oogie and Sally. Follow these step-by-step instructions to complete the quest and unlock rewards including your own compost bin and soil.

Step 1: Gather Initial Materials

To begin the quest, you’ll need to collect four essential items:

Bricks – Crafted from clay and coal

Soil – Obtained by digging with your shovel

Dark Wood – Found in the Forgotten Lands

Vegetable Trimmings – Available from Remy

Clay location: Dig up clay in the Sunlit Plateau.

Visit Remy to obtain the vegetable trimmings needed for your inventory.

Step 2: Craft the Compost Bin

Once you’ve gathered all materials, head to your crafting bench and navigate to the functional items section. Craft a compost bin using the materials you’ve collected.

Step 3: Deliver the Compost Bin to Sally

Take the compost bin to Sally inside the Vitalist Mines. Speak to her and give her the compost bin. Follow Sally as she leads you through the mines to a specific location where you’ll place the compost bin.

Step 4: Collect Dried Plants and Dry Wood

You now need to gather dried plants and dry wood, both found in the Sunlit Plateau. Dry wood is literally scattered on the ground throughout the area.

Dried Plants Locations

Dried plants can be found in multiple locations throughout the Sunlit Plateau. Look for these items on the ground:

One near the river

Two in the left-hand corner of the Sunlit Plateau

One near the bridge

Additional ones near the bridge area

One near the well

Pro tip: Look for the white-colored dried plants—these are the actual dried out variants you need.

Step 5: Place Items in the Compost Bin

Return to the Vitalist Mines and locate the compost bin you placed earlier. This is on the right-hand side of the mine area. Place the dried wood and dried plants inside the compost bin by interacting with it.

Important: Make sure you have the dried wood in your actual inventory, not stored in your house storage. If items aren’t in your inventory, retrieve them before attempting to place them in the compost bin.

Once you’ve successfully placed the items, speak to Sally again to confirm the interaction.

Step 6: Craft and Place the Critter Trap

A creature has knocked over your compost bin! You’ll need to craft a critter trap to catch the culprit. Head to your crafting bench and navigate to functional items.

Critter Trap Materials

You’ll need the following materials to craft the critter trap:

Hard Wood – Found in the Sunlit Plateau

Blueberry – From blueberry bushes

Iron Ingots – Obtained from mining

Dream Shards – Crafting material

Once crafted, return to the Vitalist Mines and place the trap near the compost bin area. Speak to Sally and give her the critter trap.

Step 7: Dig Up Worms in the Glade of Trust

Sally requests that you dig up some worms in the Glade of Trust. Travel to the Glade of Trust and look for worms sticking out of the ground. They’ll appear to be shining or glowing.

Worms can be found in various locations throughout the Glade of Trust:

Near the tree in the central area

Near the little pond

Near the bridge (multiple worms)

Note: Worm locations may vary slightly for different players, so search around if you don’t immediately spot them in the listed areas.

Step 8: Deliver the Worms

Once you’ve collected the worms, bring them to Sally. You don’t need to be in the mines for this step—you can deliver them to Sally in the Forgotten Lands or another location.

Step 9: Check on the Compost Bin and Meet Mike Wazowski

Return to the Vitalist Mines once more to check on the compost bin. When you arrive, you’ll discover that Mike Wazowski has been caught in the critter trap!

Speak to Mike and Sally, and listen to Sally explain how composting works. After their conversation, speak to Sally one final time.
