This comprehensive guide will walk you through the Circle of Life quest in Disney Dreamlight Valley, Scar’s third friendship quest. In this quest, you’ll help Scar reclaim his territory by removing larger buffalo bones from the Sunlit Plateau and upgrading your shovel along the way. Follow these step-by-step instructions to complete the quest successfully.

Starting the Quest

Begin by talking to Scar to initiate the Circle of Life quest, which is his third friendship quest. During this interaction, you’ll learn that Scar wants to get his territory back. Unlike the previous quest where you removed smaller buffalo bones from the Sunlit Plateau, this quest requires you to tackle the larger ones.

After speaking with Scar, head over to Mother Gothel and select the Circle of Life option when you talk to her. This will formally start the quest objectives.

Gathering Required Materials

Purified Night Shards

The first item you’ll need to craft is Purified Night Shards. You’ll need a total of 10 purified night shards for this quest. The recipe for purified night shards requires:

5 Night Shards

1 Dream Shard

This means you’ll need 50 Night Shards and 10 Dream Shards in total. If you don’t have night shards readily available, remember that one onyx can be crafted into three night shards. Plan your crafting accordingly to gather all necessary materials.

Old Bones from the Vitalist Mine

Next, you’ll need to collect Old Bones from the Vitalist Mine located under the Sunlit Plateau. The mine entrance is beneath the waterfall, so head there now.

Navigating the Vitalist Mine

Once you enter the cave, follow this specific route to find the Old Bones:

Immediately turn left upon entering the mine

Follow the path until it opens to your right

Turn right at the opening

Immediately turn left

You’ll find the Old Bones on the floor in a small dead end area

Be aware that the camera angles in this area can be challenging to navigate, so take your time following the path. There’s also a chest in this location if you want to explore for additional loot.

Processing the Old Bones

With your ingredients gathered, return to Scar’s cave. Inside, you’ll find a Guiser – a special device used to process items. Place the Old Bones into the Guiser to transform them into ashes.

Planting and Growing the Golden Plant

Once you have the ashes from the Guiser, head back outside Scar’s cave and equip your shovel. Plant the ashes anywhere on the Sunlit Plateau by digging a hole and placing the seed.

After planting, water the ashes with your watering can. The ashes will grow into a beautiful golden plant. Once it’s fully grown, harvest the plant – you’ll receive a seed or similar material needed for the next crafting step.

Crafting the Roaring Shovel Head

With your harvested flower of bones ready, head to your crafting bench. The Roaring Shovel Head recipe is located in the Potion and Enchantment category (not Functional Items). This recipe requires:

Purified Night Shards (the 10 you crafted earlier)

Flower of Bones (harvested from the golden plant)

Upgrading Your Shovel

Once you’ve crafted the Roaring Shovel Head, open your inventory and select the shovel head. Press “Use” to apply this upgrade to your shovel. This is an excellent reward as your shovel now has enhanced capabilities.

Clearing the Sunlit Plateau

With your upgraded shovel, you can now remove the large buffalo bones that were blocking your path on the Sunlit Plateau. Use your new shovel to clear away the bones that were previously blocking the wooden bridge and other areas of the plateau. This opens up new sections of the Sunlit Plateau for exploration and future quests.

Completing the Quest

Return to Scar one final time to complete the Circle of Life quest. Talk to him to finish the quest and claim your rewards. This completes Scar’s third friendship quest and further develops your relationship with this character.
