How to Build Walls in Civilization 6

Walls are an essential defensive structure in Civilization 6 that help protect your cities from enemy attacks. This guide will walk you through the process of researching and constructing your first walls, starting with the ancient walls available through the Masonry technology.

Research the Required Technology

To build walls in Civilization 6, you need to research Masonry, which grants access to the earliest defensive walls available in the game: Ancient Walls.

Before you can research Masonry, you must first research Mining. Once both technologies are unlocked, you’ll be able to construct walls in your cities.

To check the tech tree and locate Masonry, click on the tech tree icon in the top left corner of your screen. You’ll see Masonry listed on the right side of the tech tree interface, along with its prerequisites.

Build Ancient Walls in Your City

Once you’ve researched Masonry, navigate to one of your cities by clicking on it. Look for the production menu in the bottom right corner of the screen and select Change City Production.

In the production menu, you’ll see Ancient Walls listed as a buildable option. Click on it to start construction.

Your city will now begin building the walls. Construction takes approximately 12 turns to complete.
