Welcome to this complete guide for the “A Device in the Hand” quest in Palia. This quest involves collecting specific materials and completing several key interactions with NPCs. Follow this step-by-step tutorial to complete the quest efficiently and unlock the small hand-held device reward.

How to Start the Quest

To begin this quest, you need to pick up a small handle device located in Kilma Valley. Specifically, you’ll find it in the Phoenix Trine area. Once you’ve collected this item, the quest will automatically start.

Part 1: Talk to Ref

The first step of the quest requires you to locate and speak with Ref. After you’ve talked to Ref, the quest will update and progress to the next stage.

Part 2: Gather Required Materials

After speaking with Ref, you’ll be asked to provide two materials for the quest:

Paleum Bar

Glass Paint

Obtaining Paleum Bar

To get Paleum Bar, you need to mine Paleum nodes located in Elder Wood. Once you’ve mined the Paleum Ore, take it to your Smelter to craft it into a Paleum Bar. Check your inventory to confirm you have at least one Paleum Bar before proceeding.

Obtaining Glass Paint

You have two options for obtaining Glass Paint:

Craft it using your Glass Furnace

Purchase it directly from the Blacksmith in Kilma Village

The Blacksmith location is easily accessible in Kilma Village. Interact with the register at the shop, and you’ll see Glass Paint available for purchase at 50 gold. Buy one unit and your quest will update automatically.

Part 3: Return to Ref

Once you’ve gathered both the Paleum Bar and Glass Paint, you need to return to Ref. Ref can typically be found in the underground area, especially during nighttime. Head to the underground and locate Ref there.

Speak with Ref and select the dialogue option “You got a deal” to complete this interaction. After this exchange, the quest will update once more.

Part 4: Hide the Device

In the final stage of the quest, you’ll receive the small hand-held device and need to hide or turn it in at a specific location. You’ll remain in the underground for this step.

From the pole in the underground, take the platform available there. This will lead you to a glowing location where you can complete the device placement.

Once you’ve placed the device at the draft location, the “A Device in the Hand” quest will be completed successfully, and you’ll have unlocked the reward.
