Quest Overview and Starting the Quest

You’ll begin this quest when Christoph approaches you asking if you have a minute to spare. He explains that he’s been living in the woods for a really long time and desperately needs soap because he’s been in the forest for years. He acknowledges that he doesn’t smell very fresh. This is the first friendship quest you’ll complete with Christoph in Disney Dreamlight Valley.

Step 1: Collect Burned Logs from the Forest of Valor

Your first task is to gather burned logs from Christoph’s old campfire in the Forest of Valor. Head to the Forest of Valor and look for his campfire. The burned logs are located just to the left of the steps that lead to the Frosted Heights. Once you find them, collect the burned logs.

Step 2: Grind Burned Logs into Ashes

Next, you need to grind the burned logs into ashes at a crafting station. Travel back to the plaza and head to Goofy’s Stall, which is where you’ll find a crafting station. Use the crafting station to convert your burned logs into refined ashes (1 output from 1 input). This doesn’t sound like it will make a very pleasant-smelling soap, but it’s part of the process!

Step 3: Boil Ashes to Extract Lye

Now you’ll boil the ashes at any cooking station to extract lye. This is actually how soap is made in real life! Go to the cooking station, navigate to the recipes section, and look for “Lye” at the top of the list. Use the auto-fill function and start cooking to create the lye.

Step 4: Present Lye to Christoph and Learn About Carrot Oil

Return to Christoph in the Forest of Valor and give him the lye. He’ll thank you and explain that he also needs oil—specifically carrot oil, which he normally uses. He suggests that you talk to Maui since someone with good hair like Maui would definitely use some sort of oil. When you speak with Maui, he confirms that he uses carrot oil.

Step 5: Gather Carrots and Coconuts

To make carrot oil, you need to gather 20 carrots and 12 coconuts. You should already have a coconut tree on the beach from the Maui quest—if you placed it there. If not, you’ll need to locate one. For the carrots, you can either collect them from your home storage or gather them from around the valley. Check your food chest for any carrots you’ve already stored.

Step 6: Bring Ingredients to Christoph

Once you’ve gathered both 20 carrots and 12 coconuts, return to Christoph in the Forest of Valor. Show him the coconuts (he’ll give you the lye back in exchange as he prepares to create the final soap).

Step 7: Craft Carrot Soap

With all ingredients ready, head back to your crafting station. Look for “Carrot Soap” in the Functional Items category. Craft the carrot soap using the lye and the other ingredients you’ve gathered.

Step 8: Complete the Quest

Return to Christoph and present him with the carrot soap. He’ll accept it gratefully, and the “Leaving The Woods Behind” quest will be marked as complete. This is a straightforward quest that rewards you with increased friendship with Christoph.
