This comprehensive guide will walk you through both the “Clearing the Road” and “Protecting the Camp” quests in the Mulan realm of Disney Dreamlight Valley. These quests go hand-in-hand and involve cleaning up the devastated camp, planting trees, crafting sandbags, building fences, and ultimately welcoming Mulan and Mushu to the valley. Follow along as we break down each step of the process.

Initial Setup: Speaking with Mulan About the Landslide

After completing Mulan’s training, exit through the side gate and observe the destruction across the valley. Your first objective is to listen to Mushu and Mulan discuss the recent landslide. This conversation initiates the quest sequence and sets up the tasks ahead.

Once you’ve listened to their discussion, check in with Mulan to help clear the road to camp. This action starts the “Protecting the Camp” quest, which runs parallel to the main “Clearing the Road” quest.

Protecting the Camp: Cleanup Tasks

Collecting Broken Logs

The first major task involves removing debris from the camp. You’ll need to gather a total of 10 broken logs scattered around the main encampment. Most of these logs are located throughout the camp area—approximately seven can be picked up directly from the ground.

To retrieve the remaining logs, you’ll need to use your fishing rod to fish in the orange water ripples. There are three logs submerged in the water: two on the northern side and one additional log. Simply cast your line in the orange circles to fish out these waterlogged logs.

Removing Rocks with Your Pickaxe

Next, equip your pickaxe and remove seven rocks scattered throughout the camp. You’ll find two rocks near Mulan, two rocks on the road, and three additional rocks in the center area of the encampment.

Digging Up Sand Piles with Your Shovel

Using your shovel, dig up a total of eight sand piles located around the camp. These are distributed across the main encampment, with several clustered in the middle area. As you dig, you’ll collect brown sand, which you’ll need later for crafting sandbags.

Planting and Watering Mulan’s Tree Seeds

After completing the initial cleanup, return to Mulan. She’ll give you seeds that need to be planted in patches of soil around the camp. You’ll need to plant approximately 10 tree seeds in designated soil patches and water each one using your watering can.

The soil patches are scattered throughout the camp area: one near the initial rock, one opposite Mulan, several near rocks along the paths, one near the river, one in the hillside area near the carts, and one hidden in the leaves near the river. Make sure to water every tree seed after planting.

Once all seeds are planted and watered, speak with Mulan again to progress to the next phase.

Gathering Resources for Sandbags

Mulan will now ask you to gather 40 brown sand and 15 fiber. The brown sand was collected when you dug up the sand piles earlier—simply pick up all the brown sand scattered around the camp (there should be exactly 40 units available).

For the 15 fiber, the easiest method is to fish up seaweed from the white water ripples in the Mulan realm using your fishing rod. This is a quick and reliable way to gather fiber without leaving the realm.

Crafting Sandbags

With your 40 brown sand and 15 fiber collected, head to the crafting station located in the camp. Navigate to the Furniture section and select “Sandbags.” Craft 20 sandbags from your collected materials.

Once crafted, deliver all 20 sandbags to Mulan and present them to her.

Following Mulan to the Tents

After giving Mulan the sandbags, follow her to the tents area. Talk to her once more when you arrive at the tents location.

Returning to Mushu: The Bridge Section

Now return to Mushu in the camp area. Follow him to the location where he’s laid out foundation holes. This marks the transition back to the “Clearing the Road” quest objectives.

Collecting Additional Wooden Logs

You’ll need to collect 20 wooden logs in total for fence construction. If you’ve already picked up logs earlier, you’ll need to fish out the remaining ones from the water. Cast your fishing line in the orange ripples to extract approximately five additional logs from various locations around the realm.

Note that you’ll need to eat food occasionally to restore energy while fishing. Return to your house if needed to prepare meals.

Crafting the Wooden Fence

With all 20 wooden logs collected, return to the crafting station. Go to the “Fence and Paving” section and craft 4 Wooden Fences.

Placing the Wooden Fence

Return to the foundation area where Mushu showed you the holes. Interact with the foundation markers and place each of the 4 wooden fences at the designated locations along the foundation line.

Following Mushu to the Bridge

Once the fence is erected, follow Mushu to the bridge to send a signal for help. After reaching the bridge and sending the signal, speak with Mushu once more.

Final Steps: Returning to Mulan and Placing Houses

Return to the training area where Mulan waits. She’ll indicate she’s ready to leave the Mulan realm. Now you’ll return to the main valley to place both Mulan’s and Mushu’s houses.

Open your inventory, navigate to Furniture, and locate “Mulan’s House” at the top of the furniture list. This is a modest-sized dwelling that you can place anywhere in your valley. Choose a location that fits your aesthetic—many players place it in the meadow area or create a street with similar houses.

After placing the house, interact with the sign to unlock it officially. You’ll then receive a prompt to welcome Mulan to the valley.

Completing the Quest: Finding Mulan’s Key

Talk to Mulan once more to finish the “Protecting the Camp” quest. Now return to the Mulan realm to complete the final objectives of the “Clearing the Road” quest with Mushu. Return to Mushu in the realm, and he’ll give you a souvenir (a Fired Dragon).

Mushu will ask you to search for Mulan’s key in the realm. Exit the camp near the cooking cauldron and head toward the carts in the background. The key is lying on the floor near these carts.

Bring the key back to Mushu. He’ll lead you to a chest hidden behind the tent area. Open the chest and take whatever treasure is inside.

Talk to Mushu once more, and then return to the valley with him. Place Mushu’s house (similar to how you placed Mulan’s house), welcome him to the valley, and speak with him one final time.

Congratulations! You have now completed both the “Clearing the Road” and “Protecting the Camp” quests, and you’ve officially completed all Mulan realm quests in Disney Dreamlight Valley.
