A New Chapter Quest Guide in Disney Dreamlight Valley

Welcome to this comprehensive quest guide for “A New Chapter” in the Storybook Veil expansion of Disney Dreamlight Valley. This is the second main quest in the expansion and will guide you through unlocking the Bind, one of the main zones in Storybook Veil, and completing all the objectives Merida sets for you. Follow along to unlock new areas, meet returning villagers, and place Merida’s house in your valley.

Starting the Quest: Meeting Merida at the Fountain

Begin by heading to the fountain at the front entrance of Storybook Veil, where you’ll find Merida. Your goal is to unlock access to the Bind, which is one of the main zones in the expansion. Behind Merida, you’ll notice a barrier that requires 500 Story Magic to pass through.

Gathering Story Magic

Story Magic is obtained by completing duties and achievements. To access the menu and view available tasks, press Escape on your keyboard. Navigate to the top section and select “Storybook Duties.” Here you’ll find various tasks that reward Story Magic, including:

Removing Inkeys

Catching Snippets

Catching Bird Snippets

Catching fish in the Bind

Feeding an owl

Mining rock spots in the Bind

Complete these duties and collect the Story Magic rewards until you’ve gathered 500. Once you have enough, return to the barrier and unlock it.

Exploring the Bind with Merida

After unlocking the barrier, head down the stairs and speak to Merida again. She explains that the Bind is called so because it binds the entire veil together, with stories sewn into everything from the cliff walls to the tree leaves to the paths beneath your feet.

Clearing Inkeys and Catching Snippets

Merida asks you to help by clearing up Inkeys and catching Snippets while she works on the fountains. You’ll need to:

Remove 15 Inkeys

Catch 5 Snippets

Walk around the Bind to find and remove Inkeys. To catch Snippets, approach them with your net and right-click (or use the appropriate button for your console) to catch them. The Bind is quite large, so explore both the main island and the huge area beyond it.

Once you’ve completed these tasks, find Merida and tell her about your progress.

Meeting the Villagers

Other villagers have now arrived in the Bind and want to see what all the fuss is about. Use your map to locate them. Both Goofy and Scrooge McDuck have set up new establishments in the Bind.

Fishing with Goofy

Goofy needs your help getting to know the Bind. Your task is to catch fish and seafood around the Bind three times. There are numerous fishing spots available throughout the zone. Simply approach a fishing spot and fish until you’ve caught three items. Some of the fish you might encounter include Sea Wolf and Tuna.

Mining with Scrooge McDuck

Scrooge also needs your help. Your objective is to mine gems and minerals from the Bind’s rocks. Equip your pickaxe and strike the rocks you find. You don’t need to wait for gems to be visibly poking out of the rocks—you can still obtain them from any rock you mine.

Using the Miraculous Pickaxe Polish (Optional but Recommended)

If you want to significantly increase your gem yield, consider using the “Even More Miraculous Pickaxe Polish” enchantment. This item can be crafted from your crafting table and requires:

Viteless Crystals from the Sunlit Plateau Mine

Onyxes

Dream Light

Access this recipe under “Potions and Enchantments” in your crafting menu. Once crafted and applied to your pickaxe in your inventory, it will significantly increase your chances of obtaining gems when mining.

Return to the Bind and continue mining. With the polish applied, you’ll notice a much higher gem drop rate. Possible rewards include Opals, Nightshards, Coal, and other minerals.

Unlocking the Shops

Once you’ve completed the fishing and mining tasks, return to Goofy and Scrooge to report your progress and unlock their shops.

Goofy’s Stall

Goofy’s stall offers the following items for purchase:

Cauliflower

Fly Leaf Feta

Shovel Bird Eggs

Ring Squash

Shear Seeds

Cauliflower Seeds

Barley Seeds

Scrooge McDuck’s General Store

Scrooge McDuck’s general store is where you can purchase new furniture and other items for your valley.

The Mysterious Door and the Fountains

After unlocking both shops, return to Merida. She’s been working on getting the fountains operational. Follow her to a nearby location where you’ll discover a mysterious door leading to a small library.

Finding the Clue

Inside the library, search the rooms for clues. You’ll find a piece of paper on the floor—pick it up and interact with the memory. This is the clue you need to progress.

Talk to Merida about your discovery.

Activating the Fountains

Now you need to find a way to access what’s behind the wall. Look for lamps in the area. Turn the lamp in the corner upside down, then use your royal net to interact with it and turn the wheel. The fountains will now begin working.

Placing Merida’s House

With the fountains activated, it’s time to place Merida’s house in the Bind. Open your inventory and navigate to Furniture, then Requests. Select Merida’s House and choose where you’d like to place it in the Bind.

Once placed, interact with the house using Scrooge McDuck’s interface (just as you would with any other villager’s house) to unlock it fully.

Welcoming Merida

You can now welcome Merida into Disney Dreamlight Valley. Talk to her to complete the “A New Chapter” quest.
