How To Build & Use Granaries in Age of Mythology Retold

Granaries are essential buildings in Age of Mythology Retold that serve as both food collection points and upgrade centers. This guide covers everything you need to know about building granaries, their functionality, available upgrades, and how to maximize your food production efficiency.

What is a Granary?

The granary is a fundamental building that your villagers can construct. It functions as a drop site for all types of food gathered by your people, including farmed, herded, and hunted food. Beyond food collection, the granary is also where you can research and upgrade technologies to improve your food production methods.

Availability and Building Costs

The granary is available to both the Greeks and the Egyptians starting in the Archaic Age (the first age). However, there is a significant cost difference between civilizations. If you are playing as the Greeks, building a granary costs 50 wood. Egyptians, on the other hand, can construct granaries completely free of charge.

Granary Upgrades

The granary offers several important upgrades to enhance your food production capabilities:

Husbandry

The husbandry upgrade improves your herding efficiency. It allows your villagers to herd animals and fatten them faster. Additionally, villagers will gather food from herded animals much more quickly, and they can carry more food overall.

Plow

The plow upgrade increases farm productivity. Villagers gather food from farms faster, and the work rate from farms is improved by up to 10%.

Irrigation

The irrigation upgrade further enhances farm efficiency. With this upgrade researched, villagers gather food from farms even faster than before.

Flood Control

The flood control upgrade provides another boost to farm production. Villagers gather food from farms even faster again, making this one of the most beneficial late-game upgrades.

Survival Equipment

While not directly food-related, the survival equipment upgrade is an important villager enhancement. It makes your villagers more durable by increasing their hit points and attacks, effectively upgrading your villagers at the granary.

Using the Granary for Food Collection

The granary comes with convenient features to streamline your food gathering. When you select the granary, you can automatically click a button to send a nearby villager to its location and start gathering nearby resources, such as nearby farms.

You can also construct a farm directly from the granary itself. The granary has its own “Construct a Farm” button that allows you to place a farm immediately. Once you do, a villager will automatically come over and start farming at the granary location, making farm management simple and efficient.

Summary

The granary is one of the most important economic buildings in Age of Mythology Retold. Whether you’re playing as Greeks or Egyptians, investing in a granary early and upgrading its technologies will significantly boost your food production. With access to husbandry, plow, irrigation, flood control, and survival equipment upgrades, the granary provides multiple paths to strengthen your villagers and food supply chain. Use the built-in farm construction and worker assignment features to maximize efficiency and maintain a steady food economy throughout the game.
