How to Make Allies in Age of Empires 4

Want to team up with AI players in Age of Empires 4? Whether you’re playing Skirmish mode or setting up a custom game, creating allies is a straightforward process. This guide will walk you through the steps to configure your game so you have allied AI players fighting alongside you against enemies.

Setting Up Your Game with Allies

Create a Game and Configure Players

To start making allies in Skirmish mode, begin by clicking on Create Game. Once you’re in the game creation menu, look to the right side and click on Map. From there, locate the Map Size option and click on it to increase the maximum number of players in your game.

For this example, we’ll set the player count to 4 total players.

Assigning Teams and Creating Your First Ally

Next, click on Add AI Player to bring a computer-controlled opponent into the game. This is where team assignment becomes important:

By placing both players on team 1, you’ve now created your first ally.

Creating Enemy Teams

To complete your setup, assign the enemy AI to a different team. Set the enemies team to 2 (or any team number different from yours). This ensures they oppose you and your ally.

Adding Multiple Allies

If you want to add more allies to your team, simply assign additional AI players to team 1 as well. For example, you could have three players on team 1 (you and two AI allies) and only one opponent on team 2, giving you a 3v1 advantage.

The team assignment system is flexible—any player assigned to the same team number will fight together as allies.
