Ready to unlock the Dream Castle in Disney Dreamlight Valley? This quest becomes available after you complete your first quest with Merlin. In this guide, we’ll walk you through every step needed to gather Dream Light, remove the thorns blocking the castle, and discover which character you’d like to visit first. Let’s get started!

Understanding the Dream Castle Quest

The Dream Castle quest automatically begins after you finish your initial quest with Merlin. He’ll ask you to meet him at the castle and explain that you need Dream Light to remove the thorns (forms) blocking the entrance. Your main objective is straightforward: gather 2,000 Dream Light by completing Dream Light duties.

How to Access the Dream Light Menu

To begin collecting Dream Light, you need to access the Dream Light menu. Simply press the Escape key on your keyboard, and you’ll see the Dream Light option. Select it to view available tasks and your current progress toward the 2,000 Dream Light requirement.

Completing Dream Light Duties

There are several activities you can do to earn Dream Light. The game lets you choose from various tasks including:

Removing small thorns (forms)

Catching fish

Harvesting fruit

Mining minerals

For example, you can harvest raspberries from berry bushes around the valley. Once you complete any of these activities, you’ll see your Dream Light duties marked as fulfilled in the menu.

Gathering 2,000 Dream Light

Continue completing Dream Light duties until you reach 2,000 Dream Light. Keep in mind that you need to complete at least three separate Dream Light duties to unlock the castle. Once you’ve accumulated 2,000 Dream Light (which gives you a comfortable buffer), you’re ready to proceed.

Checking on Mickey

Before you can unlock the castle, Merlin will ask you to check on Mickey at his house. Mickey lives in the house directly opposite your starting location. When you visit him, you’ll discover that thorns have invaded his home and he’s understandably upset.

Speaking to Mickey will automatically trigger the “Mickey’s Memories” quest. You don’t need to complete it right away—simply checking on him fulfills this requirement of the Dream Castle quest.

Unlocking the Castle

With your 2,000 Dream Light collected and Mickey checked on, head back to the castle. Approach the thorns and select the “Investigate” option. Watch as your Dream Light removes all the thorns blocking the entrance.

Once the thorns are cleared, you can enter the castle. The architecture is stunning, and you’ll immediately feel the grandeur of this new location.

Choosing Your First Character to Visit

Upon completing the Dream Castle quest, you’ll be asked which character you’d like to visit first. You have three options, each behind a different door:

The Three Door Options

Left Door – Wally: A shy robot character

Right Door – Remi: A great little chef from Ratatouille

Center Door – Moana and Maui: Characters from the ocean-themed storyline

Your choice doesn’t lock you out from the other characters—you can visit all of them. Choose whichever character interests you most!
