Royal Tools Quest Guide in Disney Dreamlight Valley

Once you complete the first quest and arrive in Dream Light Valley, you’ll automatically begin the Royal Tools quest. This quest requires you to locate and collect four essential tools scattered throughout the plaza: the Royal Pickaxe, Shovel, Watering Can, and Fishing Rod. This guide will walk you through finding each tool and completing the quest.

Quest Overview

The Royal Tools quest is the second main quest in Disney Dreamlight Valley. Your objective is to acquire four tools that will help you progress in the game. Each tool serves a specific purpose and can be found in different locations around the plaza. One tool requires additional steps to fully repair before use.

Finding the Royal Shovel

Start by leaving your home and heading toward the plaza area. You can press M to open your map and see the plaza section of Dream Light Valley. As you travel from your house toward the plaza, you’ll encounter vines blocking your path—simply remove these obstacles as you go. Continue forward and you’ll discover the Royal Shovel in this area.

Once you have the shovel, you can equip it by pressing Tab to open the scroll wheel or pressing Free on your keyboard. To unequip the tool, press One.

Locating the Royal Pickaxe

After collecting the Shovel, head straight down from the shovel’s location. You’ll quickly spot the Royal Pickaxe nearby. Pick it up to add it to your inventory.

Retrieving the Fishing Rod

To find the Fishing Rod, head down the stairs from the plaza. You’ll notice there are stones blocking the path—use your newly acquired Pickaxe to break through these obstacles. Once past the stones, continue down to a small lake visible in the area.

Follow the lake around its perimeter, and you’ll discover the Fishing Rod near the water’s edge. Note that at this stage, you only have a Broken Fishing Rod, which will require repair before it’s fully functional.

Collecting the Watering Can

The Watering Can is the easiest tool to obtain. It’s located right next to your house, making it the quickest find of all four tools.

Repairing the Broken Fishing Rod

Before you complete the quest, you need to repair the Broken Fishing Rod. To do this, head to Goofy’s house, which is located behind the lake. Enter the house and speak with Goofy, who will be waiting for you inside.

Simply chat with Goofy and he will take your Broken Fishing Rod and hand you back a Fixed Fishing Rod in return.

Completing the Quest with Merlin

Now that you have all four tools—the Watering Can, Shovel, Fishing Rod, and Pickaxe—head back up the steps to the entrance of the castle. Merlin will be waiting for you there.

Speak with Merlin and complete your final interaction to finish the Royal Tools quest.
